COMPANY HISTORY
• Specializing in the construction of new homes and custom renovations that offer exceptional value, Synergy Building Company was founded by Tom Howlett, and has been operating in the Chapel Hill area since 1996. In addition to over 25 years of experience in residential construction, Tom has taught house building to hundreds of owner-builders, and co-founded the Foothill Solar Exchange, an educational association promoting passive solar design in the State of California.
Tom has been a licensed contractor since 1986.
• In 2000, Tom brought in Rick Allen, as a partner in the business. Rick has experience managing construction projects, but his main experience has been in the area of residential building materials. He owned and operated a building material supply company for several years. At Synergy, in addition to project management, his role includes purchasing, contract negotiations, financial issues, and marketing.
• Synergy Building Company has built or remodeled many homes in
the local area. Additions include master suites and family rooms,
sunrooms, screened porches, decks, garages, and remodeled kitchens
and baths.
• The scope of Synergy projects range from historic renovation
of 19th century North Carolina buildings to cutting edge green
building techniques of sealed crawlspaces, insulated concrete
forms, structural integrated panels and Energy Star designs.
