Rick Allen
Owner & President
Rick Allen has been a successful business owner for over 25 years, He grew up in Illinois, where he got his first taste of the construction business delivering drywall to construction sites for a family owned building material supply company. He received his BA at Miami University of Ohio and an MSW at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Following his formal education, he worked at an agency in Eugene, Oregon where he supervised a large team of individuals dealing with child welfare concerns. After several years in social work, Rick returned to Illinois and purchased the family building materials supply business. He grew the company, and it became a leading supplier in the suburbs of Chicago. The desire to use his building materials expertise to build quality homes led him to broaden his focus. In 1995 , he moved to North Carolina with his wife and 3 sons and entered  into a partnership with a skilled builder, named Tom Howlett . They had a mutual vision to build a company focused on quality, experience, and cooperation by teaming with owners, design professionals, and skilled contractors to provide an integrated approach to building. Since then, “Synergy Building†has  successfully completed many beautiful , energy efficient  homes and additions, while building positive experiences with owners and various construction professionals. Social welfare continues to be important Rick. He has acted on the board of directors for the Interfaith Council of Social Services and has been involved in many projects for the Community Land Trust network.
